Our Sessions

We are an instrumental jazz group playing (for our own enjoyment) arrangements of interesting instrumental jazz songs by composers like T. Monk, W. Montgomery, G. Mulligan, M. Davis, et. al. We often play at Manhattan studios, and we all pitch in for the cost (no more than $20, and never with a profit motive). We play approximately once every two or three weeks in the fall and spring, and we have lots of fun playing the arrangements and improvising to the tunes. The arrangements make it a step above just "head-solos-head" type of playing. These lead sheets are available for C, Bb, and Eb instruments (see below, and be sure to choose the correct instrument type). We are always looking for competent players who play traditional jazz instruments. The new player would need to be able to read (not difficult arrangements), be able to improvise, and of course, have good intonation and tone. Otherwise, it is very casual and friendly. The current lineup consists of trombone, alto and tenor saxes, flute, two guitars, bass, and drums. If you are a musician and want to join us, see the Contact tab.
